After attaining blindness at the age of 10 years he continued with education in the normal school. After Std 10th joined diploma in Physiotherapy in Ahmedabad. After attaining the diploma started practice of PT and served the disabled and also continued with studies in normal stream and completed MA and Bed. He joined NAB, National Association for the blind (Dahod PMS districts) and started with the activities of education, rehabilitation for the blind. Initially he participated in several prevention of blindness camps and also accepted the responsibility of Vice President in NAB.
On 05.12.1991 joined as a lecturer in Government Post Basic Training college Devgadh Baria and continued with the work for the disabled. From 10.08.1993 accepted the responsibility of Honorary General Secretary in NAB. He worked for the integration of the blind children of villages. From the year 1999 also started working for the education of children with Mental retardation and Hearing Impairment. During this time he accepted the responsibility of Vice President in All Gujarat blind teachers Association.
In order to speed up the work of education of all disabled like Mentally retarded, Hearing Impaired, along with the children with Visual Impairment and to provide better and faster services to the loco-motor disabled persons he, with the help of other friends established a Trust named Blind Welfare Council in August 2000. He accepted the responsibility of Managing Trustee and Hon Gen Secretary. He wanted to achieve the goal of all round development of all disabled of Dahod and Panchmahal districts. In the year 2001 accepted the responsibility of Hon Gen Secretary in All Gujarat blind teachers association. He then also started with the education and rehabilitation of all disabled. At present under his coverage are 400 children with Visual Impairment, 300 children with Hearing Impairment, 700 children with Mental retardation for and about 3000 children with Loco motor disability are covered for support services. In February 2000 attended Asian level conference for visual impairment in Ahmedabad. He served with his valuable services in several Polio reconstruction surgery camps. He helped about 250 polio patients to walk independently after the surgery.
He also started serving the multi disabled children and provided basic training to the children and their parents at the homes of about 40 children. Then he started with mentally retarded and multi disabled child development center in Dahod to provide training for activities of daily living and basic education. He started with the Micro credit finance to provide loan to the disabled so that they can be self employed and become a part of the society.
In the year 2002-03 he organized several camps for the distribution of aids and appliances in several places of Dahod and PMS districts with the help of Blind peoples Association Ahmedabad, Alimco Kanpur, DDRC Surat. He aimed at providing the needed aids and appliances to all disabled in this area. Several tricycles, crutches, hearing aids, wheelchairs, tape recorders, white canes were distributed.
It is to be worth noting that the noted Education institute of Dahod district “Dahod Anaj Mahajan Education society” awarded with the Nistha award on 09.12.2005.
National Association for the Blind-Gujarat State Branch has awarded Late. Jagdish Patel Pratibha Award on 2nd October, 2007.
He visited Kaulalampur (Malaysia) to attend the world conference on the future challenges for the education of children with visual impairment organized by ICEVI – International council for education of persons with visual impairment.
